When did you start blogging? How did you start?
Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for creative writing. Being the dork that I am, I actually started blogging at the tender age of 12. (I can thank The Amanda Show for that!) Luckily for me, all of my embarrassing blog posts about who my latest celebrity crush was have since been deleted. And, let’s be honest, I didn’t really have much going on in my life to document. It wasn’t until about last year that I started to blog again.

After I graduated university and worked three years at a 9-to-5 desk job, I was itching for a creative outlet. I’ve been a creative person my whole life and seriously noticed that not having any side projects of my own started taking a toll on my happiness. It was then that I decided to start blogging again. I must say that, after experimenting with different media, I prefer Instagram and YouTube as the best platforms to express myself.

Describe your creative process.
I get inspired by so many different things in life, whether from something I recently read, saw on Pinterest, or even something I saw at a local shop. I constantly try to stay up-to-date with what’s relevant to keep my ideas fresh, but I don’t let trends dictate everything I do because that just wouldn’t be a true representation of me. My brainstorming process is usually a mixed bag of ideas and concepts I’ve accumulated through my different venues. To be truthful, I feel like it takes a decade for my content to come to surface because of my perfectionist nature. But let’s be real: nothing can truly be perfect, right?

What challenges do you face with video blogging compared to writing? Which do you prefer?
Like with everything in life, there are pros and cons to both. I feel like YouTube and blogging are two very different media. On one hand, YouTube allows me to be a little more creative and share my personality and, even though it’s more time-consuming, I’ve always had a love for video editing, so I don’t really see that as a massive inconvenience. On the other hand, writing allows me to take the time to express and convey my thoughts and opinions to the finest detail. If I had to choose one, I would say YouTube is my medium of choice. I believe that it represents the most real version of me and, for some odd reason, that provides a sense of comfort.

How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my personal style as mix of retro, minimalist, and feminine. I would even dare to say that those characteristics are reflected in my interior-design style. As much as I try to keep up with trends, I don’t let those define what I decide to wear because I know if it makes me feel uncomfortable I probably won’t feel super confident trying to rock them. Growing up, I was always told that I’ve had my own sense of style. But it wasn’t until the last year or two that I really discovered my true sense of style and became more comfortable expressing myself through fashion. Apparently there are more colours to wear than just black. Who knew!?

How does your multimedia design background influence your blog and social media channels?
My multimedia design background has a huge impact on my blog and social media channels. The knowledge I’ve built up over the years allows me to create and edit all of my content, whether that be coding the template for my blog or editing my own videos. It definitely gives me the freedom to be as creative as I’d like to be given that I’m familiar with the tools that I need to create my content. My background in design has certainly made me attend to details when creating my content that other people probably wouldn’t even notice.

What about the distinct Olivia Burton look appeals to your creative design preferences?
I discovered Olivia Burton watches a few years back and instantly fell in love with how timeless they were, no pun intended. I love how they design classic and minimalist pieces and spice it up with an extra wow factor. I appreciate that they offer watches for every sense of style—especially when they pair it with stunning mixed-metals, floral designs, or their iconic bee embellishment. I admire how each watch is meticulously designed with beautiful detail and a feminine flare that make them stand apart from the rest. I’m actually quite picky when it comes to jewelry pieces that can stand on their own yet not take away from your entire look, and Olivia Burton watches fit the bill perfectly. The distinct quirkiness and vintage-inspired look of their watches are on point with my day-to-day style and allow me to dress it up or down.

We understand that you love to explore your various creative interests. What’s next for you?
Throughout this year, I’ve been very intent on growing my Instagram account and improving the quality of my content. But now that I feel as though I’ve reached a point that I’m happy with, I would love to focus on my YouTube channel. I feel like there’s so much potential content and topics I would love to touch on through my channel. I want people to get to know me on a more personal level than through a bunch of aesthetically pleasing, edited photos. Even though videos obviously take a lot more effort than thinking of photo concepts or writing blog posts, as a sentimental person I feel like it’d be nice to have all these videos to look back on later in life. comI’m also working on designing my home. I was fortunate enough to have purchased my first home last year, and I’ve been having the time of my life scouring for unique pieces to make the place feel like my own and like home. I’d like to think that one day I’ll be completely satisfied with my home, but I know I’d be kidding myself because I always love keeping things current and I’m guilty of being quite fickle when it comes to interior decorating. I’m sorry, but Home Sense just has too much good and affordable décor. Can you really blame a girl? I don’t have a crystal ball, but I have a strong feeling that a lot of DIY projects are lurking around the corner for me. I’m getting married next year and my goal is to try to be as creative as I can be without going too crazy and losing my mind. And before you ask, yes I’ve already started my Pinterest board. Not going to lie: I definitely started this before I got engaged, but I can’t be the only girl guilty of this.
