Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

My name is Mardy Anderson and I’m a realtor in Calgary, Alberta. I have an amazing fiancée, Nadine, who is my biggest supporter and an extremely talented photographer. We have been together for six years and have two gorgeous little girls, Baylor (4) and Brinley (2) who keep us very busy between parenting and working on our individual businesses.

Talk us through your average day. What does you’re a.m. to p.m. look like?

A typical day for me usually starts pretty early with a few cups of coffee. Lately I’ve been focused on my health and getting back into the gym, so that’s usually my first stop in the morning. From the gym I head over to our office and meet with the other guys on our team and our day usually starts with some pump-up music and good laughs before we start the daily grind. Our grind consists of things most people don’t realize we do like cold calling, door knocking, etc. After a fun morning of “lead generation” is typically when I do my current client follow-ups and focus on social media content. In the afternoons, if I don’t have appointments, we do some role-playing practice and sharpen our communication skills. If I don’t have any showings or meetings, I usually head home from the office or do some running around or personal errands. After I get home, we get to have fun family time until the girls go to bed, and the night usually ends with a few more emails and Nadine and I binge-watching a few episodes of Wentworth! And repeat. Lol.

On your Instagram, we see you always rocking Nixon. What about the brand do you identify with and how does it fit into your personal business and style?

Yeah, definitely, I have always loved Nixon watches! What I like most is that their watches are so flexible with your lifestyle, no matter who you are. Whether I am wearing a suit for work, lounging around on a Sunday, or going out on a Friday night, they always complete the look!

Having a career in real estate can be difficult because it’s not your traditional nine-to-five gig. How do you juggle your work and family time?

That is a great question and I admit that it’s something I’m still working on consistently. Keeping a schedule for me is very important and helps me get everything done that I need to do from day to day, including family time. I think the best way for me to juggle work and family has been to stick to my schedule and try my best to plan ahead. I actually really love my job so it’s hard to turn off my work brain sometimes. It is definitely important to me to be present when I’m not working and focus on what is truly important at the end of the day, and that is my family. The main reasons why I chose this career were to spend more time with my family, work from home, and have more flexibility in my schedule.

Between your real estate business and your busy family, what do you do with the little free time you have?

We definitely don’t get a lot of free time these days, lol. When we do, Nadine and I like to spend time together going for a date night, which is usually steak dinner at The Keg, and a good movie. In the winter I like to hit the mountains whenever I can to snowboard with my buddies. In the summer you can usually find me on a motorcycle. (I have a 1983 Honda Goldwing I ripped apart and turned into a bit of a Frankenstein bike.) We also love spending a lot of time in B.C. at Moyie Lake with the kids and the family.

What mantra do you live by?

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” by Albert Einstein. I find this so relative in life and in business, as we are constantly evolving and learning as humans. Getting into real estate really forced me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things as well as really look back on past experiences. It opens my eyes to re-evaluate things and think differently from other people. It makes me think about how I can handle things differently in my life to get better results at work and at home.

What’s next for you?

There’s undoubtedly some big things coming from Mardy Anderson in Calgary real estate, and I am very focused on that at the moment, so keep your eyes and ears open! I will definitely be getting into the investment side of real estate in the near future as well, and my goal is to end up with a small collection of investment properties. As far as the family goes, I see a lot of fun times together travelling, playing sports, and sharing good times at the lake as the kids grow up. And hopefully a much-needed vacation very soon!
